How to choose 3003 aluminum coil and 3004 aluminum coil?

3003 and 3004 aluminum coils are mainly used for construction. High magnesium, aluminum alloy plate, thin plate, aluminum alloy pre-stretched aluminum alloy plate series products are widely used in aerospace, military, electric locomotives, special vehicles, shipbuilding, machining, chemical industry, electric power, transportation, construction, decoration and other industries. With its strong capital strength, strong production and research and development capabilities. While it is similar in appearance and content, there are also some subtle differences between them that make them different in certain applications. This article will guide you to learn more about 3003 and 3004 aluminum coils.

Why is 3003 widely used?

3003 aluminum coil is the most widely used aluminum alloy, because the price of 3003 aluminum coil is reasonable for most industries. It consists of aluminum, copper, iron, manganese, silicon and zinc. Because of its strong corrosion resistance and medium strength, it has been widely used. 3003 aluminum coils are 20% stronger than 1100 grade alloys because it is fused with manganese. Cold working can increase the strength of this alloy.

Advantages of 3003 aluminum coil

The machinability of 3003 aluminum is considered a good aluminum alloy. It is easy to handle for different applications. And it can be formed with conventional hot or cold working. You can also shape 3003 aluminum using traditional welding methods. It is sometimes welded to other aluminum alloys such as 6061, 5052 and 6062 which should have an AL 4043 filler rod.

Aluminum 3003 is not heat treatable but can be forged between 500 and 950 degrees Fahrenheit. Aluminum can be easily heat treated when heat is used in this range. However, it is prone to cold work, which can be done the traditional way. When annealing the alloy during or after using the cold working process, it should be done at 775°F. This will give it enough time to heat up thoroughly before air cooling. The only way to harden this alloy is to use cold working. It can also be deep drawn, spun or brazed.

Why is 3004 aluminum coil so popular?

3004 aluminum coil is an alloy in the forged aluminum-manganese series (3000 or 3xxx series). It is similar to Alloy 3003 except with about 1% magnesium added. It can be cold worked (but unlike some other types of aluminum alloys, it cannot be heat treated) to produce a temper with higher strength but lower ductility. Like most other aluminum-manganese alloys, 3004 is a general-purpose alloy with moderate strength, good workability and good corrosion resistance, and is always made into painted aluminum coils. It's usually rolled and extruded (used to make beverage cans), but it's usually not forged. As a wrought alloy, it is not used for casting.

Advantages of 3004 aluminum coil

Excellent punchability and good oxidation resistance, its surface can be anodized to improve hardness and wear resistance, and it also has a bright and colorful surface. And improved based on 3003 aluminum. It is harder than 3003.

Comparison of two coils

Almost every industry uses aluminum in one way or another. Chall Aluminum's professional team provides different services according to the needs of customers. As part of this, different forms of aluminum are used, including aluminum coils, foils, billets, ingots, and more. For 3003 and 3004 aluminum coils, there are some differences, you should know, we arranged the table below, which is their comparison.
